StoryMapping Queer Climate Justice
Queers for Climate Justice partnered with the Astraea Foundation and the Community Mapping Lab at the University of Georgia to create this set of StoryMaps highlighting their first climate justice grantees and exploring disaster risk for queer and trans communities in the United States.
Created by Vanessa Raditz in partial fulfillment of a Master's of Arts in Geography.
This StoryMap introduces you to eight of the Astraea Foundation's first climate justice grant recipients. Through a combination of maps, media, and the grantee’s own words from their proposals, this project lifts up the current needs and priorities of the emerging queer climate justice movement.
The "Queer Disaster Risk Map" is an at-a-glance visual emphasizing areas in urgent need of investment in disaster preparedness and response for LGBTQ+ communities. It was created by combining multiple variables related to disaster risks for LGBTQ+ people.
